In a victory for vaping rights advocates and public health activists alike, the national legal age to purchase tobacco products has been increased to 21. This bold, historic action will not only help keep tobacco products out of the hands of minors, but also forestalls the misguided attempts to legislate youth tobacco use through short-sighted flavor bans.
While nearly 20 states have already embraced a higher tobacco age – so-called "T21" or "Tobacco 21" – this is the first change to the federal smoking age since 1992. Because more than half of teens who vape obtain the devices from social sources, such as peers who have already reached the age of 18.
While the legal guidance available for vape shops has been contradictory and muddled, Mister-E-Liquid is choosing to take the route that best protects our nation's youth. As such, we will be raising our minimum age to purchase to 21, for all US states, effective immediately, both online and in our Mister-E's and BloNoSmoke retail stores.
We have long led the way on keeping vape products out of the hands of children, voluntarily restricting our age of purchase to match that of tobacco products, as well as not allowing anyone under the legal age of purchase to even enter our retail stores. Proactively restricting vapor products to persons 21 and older is our way of helping to protect the next generation.
This creates some hardship for our customers who are between 18 and 21, and we acknowledge that with our apologies. Please understand we want to make the right choice, for the greatest number of people, and we feel this is how we can best do that.
As always, we want your voice to be heard!
